Humbled

I am an immodest person. I believe, modesty is a virtue of the weak. Now, that's how I think, there isn't much I can do about that anymore.

So simply by this virtue, I presume, and more often I am (there it goes again), that I am the smartest person in the room at any given point.

Today, or rather last night was different. Last night, I was humbled. Humbled not by Einstein or Newton or any other person who seemed smarter than me. I was humbled by someone who knew how to do his job. And someone who knew how to do it right.

He didn't insult me, he didn't share a word with me, in fact we never even made eye contact. All he did was came to recording studio. Took out his flute. Listened to what the music director wanted. Went inside the booth and played.

And he didn't read off a sheet and neither was he guided by Beethoven. He just closed his eyes, listened and played. On his way out he was accepted a meager amount, which would probably be less than his cab fare.

He churned out seven different tunes at 2:40 in the morning and the only two words he said were on his way out, "Thank you."
